Combined Sections Meeting 2013
The newest addition to the P.R.O. family, Melissa Jennings, recently attended the 2013 APTA Combined Sections Meeting in San Diego, CA. Read on to find out what CSM is all about…
Here at P.R.O. Physical Therapy we are constantly trying to improve our patient care and clinical outcomes so while Virginia was covered in snow, I was having a blast at the American Physical Therapy Association’s Combined Sections Meeting (CSM) in sunny San Diego, California. CSM is the SuperBowl of the PT world, where physical therapists have the opportunity to attend a variety of lectures featuring all of the up-and-coming research, equipment and techniques.
Most of my patients are orthopedic in nature so many of the lectures I attended were within this realm including a using a new tool to identify candidates for orthotics and common overuse injuries in dancers and runners. I also chose to attend several lectures in other fields of PT including identification and treatment of central vestibular disorders (aka dizzy patients) and treating patients with pelvic floor dysfunction. That’s the wonderful feature about attending CSM, it allows therapists to attend lectures within and beyond their practice field so their clinical “tool bag” can grow and become a better clinician.
