Parkinson’s/BIG Program

LSVT BIG is a research-based exercise approach developed for individuals with Parkinson’s disease that focuses on specific training to increase the amplitude of limb and body movement to improve faster walking with bigger steps, improved balance, improved trunk rotation and improvements with activities of daily living.

LSVT BIG is a standardized treatment protocol that can be delivered by a physical therapist. This protocol was developed specifically to address the unique movement impairments for people with Parkinson’s disease. The treatment program is administered in 16 sessions for 4 consecutive days a week for 4 weeks. The program also includes daily homework practice and daily carry over exercises. The protocol is both intensive and complex, with many repetitions of core movements that are used in daily living.
