August 2012 Team Training Update
Brian Hoke from Atlantic Physical Therapy in Virginia Beach, Virginia is a Nationally recognized lecturer and expert in the field of lower extremity biomechanics, orthotic prescription and treatment of all types of lower extremity overuse problems and injuries, came to P.R.O. May 2012 and taught an advanced foot/ankle biomechanics. This information helped the P.R.O. clinicians learn more about running injuries, orthotic fabrication, shoe prescription and treatment techniques.
This was a nice continuance of learning for the P.R.O. clinicians who also attended the U. Va. Runners conference in March. At this conference the pros/cons of barefoot and minimalist running were reviewed in light of current literature. This discussion continues among our running clients and therapists. With this information we have worked to develop a physical screen to help with decision making on whether you might be a candidate for barefoot/minimalist running. If you are interested in learning more about these topics, feel free to call Lindsey at the clinic.
Lindsey also attended the Cincinnati Sports Medicine Advancement on the Shoulder and Knee. Lindsey was able to hear from the leaders in Orthopedic Surgery and post-surgical rehabilitation the most effective treatment interventions and protocols to help in the best recovery of our patients. Topics were covered for the shoulder, knee, ankle, hip and elbow.
Dr. Chad Cook, Professor and Chair at Walsh University and consulting professor at Duke University, presented in June 2012 on “Differential Diagnosis: Which Clinical Tests are the Best?” This information helped the P.R.O. clinicians hone their clinical decision making skills in light of the most recent research on which clinical exam tests are the best and in which order they should be applied in exam to help with diagnosis and development of a treatment plan. This information affords your physical therapist greater accuracy and prescriptive progression to help in your early return to work/sport/activity.
Don’t forget to take a nice long walk at Jim Barnett Park this summer. The walking/exercise trail is just waiting for you.
