Post Partum “Fourth Trimester” Care: 
 
Physical therapy for post partum women can range from general post partum education and self care to training safe lifting mechanics for your child, car seats, etc.  Cesarean and peroneal scar care can provide symptom relief and improve function. Physical therapy for pelvic floor muscle re-education can begin 6 weeks post partum and can progress to eventual return to exercise programming so you can work back to your normal physical activity. 
 
Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy for Women:
 

Pelvic floor physical therapy can address a variety of conditions related to discomfort, pain, and strength related issues such as:

    •  Urinary incontinence/leakage
    • Urinary urgency/frequency/overactive bladder
    • Nocturia (waking up at night to urinate multiple times)
    • Pelvic pain
    • Pain with sex or insertion (including vaginismus and dyspareunia)
    • Fecal Incontinence
    • Pregnancy related conditions (see above)
    • Diastasis Rectus Abdominus
    • Vulvodynia
    • Coccyx pain or Coccyx dysfunction
    • Scar mobilization (Cesarean, perineal, abdominal)
    • Pelvic Organ Prolapse
Post Mastectomy from Breast Cancer Care:
A great deal of scar tissue, muscular tightness and weakness can be present post mastectomy. Physical therapy can be utilized to implement gentle stretching, massage therapy, joint mobility, strengthening, and postural training to reduce your symptoms and improve your function.
